Pictured above is a map of China.
In 1912, the Last Imperial Dynasty and the Last Emperor, Henry PuYi, were overthrown. The Last Imperial Dynasty was the Qing Dynasty, which ruled from 1644 to 1912. Emperor PuYi was the twelfth and final emperor of China and the Qing Dynasty. He became emperor when he was only about 2 or 3 years of age. There was no central power in China until 1920 when the Nationalist Party took over. The Nationalist Party was created by Sun Yat-sen, the party's first leader, in 1911. The Chinese Communist Party was then founded in 1921 by young radicals. After an alliance between the two, the Nationalist Party broke the alliance and then later thought they had finished the Communist Party. However, in 1945 a civil war broke out in China between the Nationalists and the Communists. The Communists were victorious and the party became the power in China in the spring of 1949. Thus, the Communist rule began in China and still continues today. The Chinese Communist Party came to power and drastically changed China through many ways, such as the Great Leap Forward, the Cultural Revolution, and dealing with the Cold War.
